“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”

 Margaret Mead, Anthropologist - 1958

As residents in the City of Pittsburgh, each of us is personally responsible for maintaining the livability of our neighborhoods.  Livability refers to the environmental and social quality of an area as perceived by residents, employees, customers and visitors. It includes such things as picking up litter in front of where we live, working out differences with neighbors, and maintaining the exterior of our homes.  And whether we realize it or not, environmental issues like energy conservation, air quality, stormwater management, and proper waste handling also affect the livability of Pittsburgh.

Conservation Consultants, Inc. and Pennsylvania Resources Council, Inc., two local non-profit organizations in Pittsburgh, developed a guidebook that touches upon these and other environmental issues affecting us in the City of Pittsburgh.  The guidebook also provides resources on how we can be better stewards of the environment in which we live.

This website is a web-based version of the guidebook.  Use this site as a toolbox, with each resource being a different tool.  Tackling neighborhood improvement issues is no easy feat.  It is our goal to empower Pittsburghers to solve problems, make things happen, and create a better city, one community at a time.

This website and corresponding print version were made possible through the generous support of
The Heinz Endowments.
